Cabinets are one of the most important elements of a kitchen remodel, serving both functional and aesthetic purposes. They provide essential storage, help maintain an organized space, and set the overall tone of your kitchen’s design. The right cabinets can enhance both the efficiency and style of your kitchen, making it a more enjoyable and visually appealing space. We’ll walk you through the key factors to consider when selecting kitchen cabinets, from budget and materials to style and functionality, ensuring you make the best choice for your home.

Determine Your Budget

Cabinet costs can vary significantly based on materials, customization, and brand. Stock cabinets are typically the most affordable option, while semi-custom and custom choices offer greater flexibility but at a higher price. To get the most value, focus on durability, explore cost-effective alternatives, and compare multiple suppliers for the best deals.

Choose Your Cabinet Style

The style of your cabinets sets the tone for your kitchen’s overall design. Popular styles like Shaker, Traditional, Modern, and Rustic each bring a unique feel, from timeless elegance to sleek minimalism. When choosing a style, think about how it complements your kitchen’s layout, color scheme, and decor. Additionally, door styles—such as flat-panel, raised-panel, or glass-front—have a significant impact on the aesthetics. Selecting the right combination will ensure a cohesive, visually pleasing kitchen design.

Select the Right Cabinet Material

The material you choose affects not only the appearance but also the durability and maintenance of your cabinets. Solid wood options like oak, maple, and cherry offer lasting beauty but vary in grain, hardness, and cost. For budget-friendly or modern alternatives, consider materials such as MDF, plywood, laminate, or metal. Each has its own pros and cons, so it’s important to evaluate moisture resistance, ease of cleaning, and overall durability to ensure your cabinets remain functional and stylish for years to come.

Pick a Finish and Color

The finish and color of your cabinets can completely transform your kitchen’s look. Stained cabinets highlight the natural beauty of the wood, creating a classic and warm atmosphere, while painted cabinets offer a sleek, modern feel. Trending colors like deep green and navy can add a contemporary touch, while timeless shades like white and gray will give your kitchen lasting appeal. To ensure a cohesive design, be sure to coordinate your cabinet finishes with your countertops and backsplash for a balanced, harmonious look.

Consider Storage and Functionality

Maximizing storage and functionality is crucial when selecting cabinets. Drawer cabinets offer easy access and improved organization, while traditional door cabinets provide ample space but may require extra shelving. Smart storage solutions like pull-out shelves, lazy Susans, and built-in organizers help maximize space and make your kitchen more functional. Custom features, such as deep drawers for cookware or vertical dividers for baking sheets, can further improve usability and keep your kitchen clutter-free.

Hardware and Accessories

The right hardware adds both style and practicality to your cabinets. Handles, knobs, and pulls are the final touches that can elevate your kitchen’s look. Choose hardware that complements your cabinet style for a cohesive design. Features like soft-close hinges, under-cabinet lighting, and built-in organizers add convenience, improving both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of your kitchen.

Cabinets are a cornerstone of any kitchen remodel, blending functionality with style. They provide essential storage, keep your space organized, and define the overall aesthetic of your kitchen. Choosing the right cabinets can enhance both efficiency and visual appeal, creating a kitchen that is both beautiful and practical. Ready to take the next step? Having the right storage in your kitchen is essential for creating a functional and organized space. Storage plays a key role in determining your kitchen’s flow and usability. Custom cabinets are a step above pre-made options because they integrate seamlessly into your kitchen, making the most of every inch. Plus, with custom cabinetry, you’re in complete control, ensuring every decision aligns with your preferences. Let’s explore how custom cabinets can be designed to perfectly meet your unique needs.

The Benefits of Custom Cabinets

One of the greatest advantages of custom cabinets is the freedom to design them exactly as you want. You can ensure the style aligns perfectly with your home decor, creating a cohesive and personalized look. Custom cabinets also allow you to maximize storage space, even in awkward corners or tight areas that standard cabinets can’t utilize effectively.

In addition to their versatility, custom cabinets stand out for their superior craftsmanship. You can select materials and finishes that reflect your taste while ensuring long-term durability. By improving both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of your kitchen, custom cabinets also enhance your home’s value, making them a smart and stylish investment.

Assessing Your Storage Needs

Before starting your custom cabinetry project, it’s important to evaluate your specific storage needs. Begin with an inventory of the items you want to store. Are there particular kitchen tools, appliances, or cookware that require dedicated space? This step will help you determine the size and layout needed for your cabinets.

Next, analyze your available space to measure and understand its potential. Finally, think about how you’ll use the cabinets—do you prefer open shelving for easy access or hidden compartments for a cleaner look? Features like adjustable shelves or pull-out drawers can further enhance functionality, making your cabinets adaptable to your daily needs.

Design Elements to Consider

When factoring in design elements, the material you choose is crucial. Cabinets can be crafted from a variety of materials, with wood being a timeless classic, as well as laminate, glass, or even a mix of materials. Hardware options such as handles, hinges, and drawer slides play a dual role in enhancing both aesthetics and functionality.

When designing your cabinets, it’s important to coordinate with your interior design by carefully considering materials, finishes, and colors to create a cohesive look. One of the best things about custom cabinetry is the ability to incorporate features like pull-out drawers, built-in lighting, and soft-close mechanisms, which add both convenience and a touch of luxury to your space.

The Process of Creating Custom Cabinets

The process of creating custom cabinets can be broken down into three key steps. The first is consultation and design. Collaborate with a designer or builder to bring your vision to life. Kitchen Solvers specializes in custom cabinetry—schedule an appointment today to start discussing your project.

Budgeting for Custom Cabinets

Cost is often the first question when it comes to custom cabinets. Different materials, such as laminate or cherry wood, come with varying price points. Additionally, the complexity of your design and the size of your project significantly impact the overall cost. It’s crucial to set realistic expectations when designing your kitchen, balancing cost with quality and desired features. Keep in mind that prices can vary between vendors, so take the time to compare. Getting quotes from multiple vendors will give you a clearer picture of your options and help you make an informed decision.

A home’s kitchen is not simply a place where you prepare meals; it is the heart of the home, a space where functionality and aesthetics should meet seamlessly. There are a lot of elements that tie together to create the overall look and feel of your home’s kitchen, but cabinets play the most significant role. Cabinetry not only provides storage for your entire kitchen, but they also set the tone for the entire space. Choosing cabinets takes lots of things into consideration including style, material, and finish. In this style guide, we’ll dive into the different options that homeowners have and how to make the best choice for their kitchen.

Raised Panel Cabinets – Traditional Elegance

For the homeowner who is looking for a timeless look with a touch of sophistication, raised panel cabinets are a perfect choice. Raised panel cabinets feature a raised center panel surrounded by a frame which adds depth and dimension to the design. These cabinets often come in wood finishes like cherry, oak, or maple which only adds to the classic appeal of these for traditional kitchens. Raised panel cabinets pair well with antique brass or oil-rubbed bronze hardware to create a cohesive look.

Flat Panel Cabinets – Modern Simplicity

For the homeowner looking for a modern aesthetic, flat panel cabinets (also known as slab or minimalist cabinets) will offer a sleek and contemporary look. These cabinets boast clean lines and a smooth, uninterrupted surface to create a minimal look that emphasizes simplicity and functionality. Flat panel cabinets come in a variety of materials including wood, laminate, or even metal. This allows homeowners to customize their kitchens according to their personal preferences.

Shaker Cabinets – Rustic Charm

For the homeowner who might be looking for a more versatile option, the shaker cabinet is a great option. Shaker cabinets are characterized by simple, clean lines with recessed panel doors. They can fit into both a traditional and contemporary kitchen which makes them a popular choice for lots of different homeowners. Oftentimes, shaker cabinets are crafted from wood such as oak, cherry, or maple and can be left natural for a rustic look, or painted for a more modern look. Choosing hardware that complements your style can take a shaker cabinet to the next level and can add to the timeless appeal of this option.

Glass Front Cabinets – Luxurious Sophistication

For homeowners who have fine china or decorative items they want to display, glass front cabinets offer an elegant option. These cabinets may be self-explanatory, but they feature glass panels on the front doors which allows for display while keeping the contents protected at the same time. Glass front cabinets come in various styles including the traditional mullion design, or more contemporary frameless options. If homeowners want to take them to the next level, consider pairing them with interior lighting to highlight the items displayed and create a beautiful focal point in the kitchen.

Eco-Friendly Cabinets – Sustainable Beauty

For the eco-conscious homeowner, opting for a sustainable material for your kitchen cabinets might be the best option. Bamboo, reclaimed wood, and FSC-certified plawood are choices that are becoming more and more popular in the eco-friendly world. These materials offer both durability and environmental benefits and can be finished with non-toxic stains and sealants to ensure a healthy indoor environment. Eco-friendly cabinets come in a wide range of styles which allows homeowners to embrace sustainability without having to compromise on style.

Choosing the right cabinets for your kitchen remodel involves considering your personal style, functional needs, and environmental preferences. If you prefer the timeless elegance of raised panel cabinets, the modern simplicity of flat panel cabinets, or something in-between like Shaker, there is sure to be a perfect option to suit your taste and lifestyle. Explore different styles, materials, and finishes with your local Kitchen Solvers to help you determine which options reflect your individuality and enhance the overall beauty of your home.

The kitchen is the hub of a lot of activity. It is where families gather for meals, where those meals are prepared, and memories are made whether food is involved or not. This is why the kitchen is often referred to as the heart of the home. If you’re looking to give your kitchen a facelift, but your budget is tighter, fear not! There are a lot of ways you can upgrade your kitchen without breaking the bank. Here, we’ll explore creative and cost-effective ways to do just that. We’ll look at both full remodels and cabinet refacing options to help homeowners transform their kitchen into a stylish and functional space.

Evaluate Your Needs & Prioritize

Before diving into any type of house project, you should always take some time to evaluate your needs and prioritize. Figure out which aspects of your kitchen require attention—it could be outdated cabinets, worn-out countertops, or a lack of storage space. Understanding your priorities can help you allocate your budget wisely and make sure you focus on the areas that will make the most impact on your daily function in the space.

Full Remodel on a Budget

DIY Painting

Paint might seem like all too simple of an upgrade, but it can make a world of difference in a space. A fresh coat of paint on the walls and the cabinets can be one of the most budget-friendly ways to give your kitchen a fresh look. Choose light, neutral colors to create a spacious and inviting atmosphere. Do your research on tips and tricks when painting cabinetry as it can be a little bit of a chore but can easily be done on a weekend if you’re focused. This weekend project can transform your kitchen almost instantly.

Affordable Countertops

Just because your countertops might be worn our and dated, doesn’t mean you need to splurge on an expensive replacement like granite or quartz. Consider more affordable options like laminate or butcher block. These options can provide a stylish, fresh look without the hefty price tag. This allows you to use your budget on other essential upgrades instead of spending most of it on your countertop.

Update Lighting Fixtures

A simple swap of outdated lighting fixtures for new, modern, energy-efficient ones is another way to enhance your kitchen aesthetic quickly. Typically, lighting fixtures aren’t too expensive either and can make a huge difference in the space. Consider pendant lights over your island, or under-cabinet LED strips can add style, ambiance, and functionality too.

Cabinet Refacing

New Doors and Hardware

If your current cabinets are structurally sound but just visually outdated, you could reface them by simply replacing the doors and hardware. This can give your kitchen a contemporary facelift without the large expense of entirely new cabinetry.

Laminate or Veneer Overhaul

If you’re looking for a new appearance for your cabinets, you can apply a laminate or veneer to the cabinet box surfaces for a sleek and polished look. Not only does this cover up imperfections, but it also provides a new durable, and easy-to-clean surface. This cost-effective option is a way to achieve a high-end look on a budget.

Open Shelving

By simply removing the doors on a few of your cabinets you can embrace the open shelving trend. This would not only save you the cost of replacing those doors but creates a modern and airy feel for your kitchen. Homeowners choose to display stylish dishware or decorative items to further personalize their kitchen as it can be a little harder to add personal decorations in this space.

Smart Storage Solutions

Pull-Out Shelves and Drawers

Incorporating pull-out shelves and drawers can instantly enhance functionality in your kitchen. These types of storage solutions can be installed in existing cabinets to maximize the space you already have while making items more accessible and increasing the overall function of the space.

DIY Organization

You don’t necessarily need new gadgets and large pull-out shelves or drawers to organize your space. DIY organizing solutions can make just as big of an effect on the function of your space. Taking advantage of unused vertical space with hooks utensils or tension rods for pot lids can ensure that there are designated zones for specific items. Clever organization can make a huge difference in any space, but especially in a space that is so heavily used like the kitchen. Taking the time to really think through how the space functions and what you need in what places can make you kitchen feel brand new.

Upgrading your kitchen on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t truly upgrade the style and function of the space. Whether you choose a full remodel or the more budget-friendly cabinet refacing, these tips can help you attain a fresh and inviting space without breaking the bank. A little creativity and strategic planning can go a long way in transforming your kitchen into a place where you love to cook, entertain, or just be. If creativity and strategic planning aren’t your strong suits, Kitchen Solvers is here to help. We specialize in making your kitchen dreams come true—no matter what your budget is. If your kitchen cabinets are looking tired and outdated, rest assured you are not alone! This is a common dilemma that homeowners are facing and the good news is, you don’t necessarily have to undergo the expensive and time-consuming process of a complete remodel. Cabinet refacing is a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative that offers many benefits. Here we’ll cover a few of them and they might just make your think twice before opting for a full cabinet replacement.

Cost-Efficiency

One of the most significant and appealing advantages to cabinet refacing is the savings. A full cabinet replacement can be a hefty financial investment that includes not just the cost of building the custom new cabinets, but also the professional installation fees. Alternatively, cabinet refacing involves replacing only the doors and drawer fronts and applying a new veneer to your current cabinet frames. This cuts down the material and labor costs which makes cabinet refacing a budget-friendly option for those looking to transform their kitchen.

Time Savings

A full kitchen renovation can be disruptive and just the thought of being without your functioning kitchen for an extended period of time can be daunting for many homeowners. Comparatively, cabinet refacing is a much quicker process than cabinet replacement. The majority of refacing projects can be completed in a few days so the disruption to your daily life is short-lived. In contrast, some cabinet replacement projects can take weeks which leaves you without a kitchen during that time—which is not ideal for anyone who uses their kitchen often.

Environmentally Friendly

In today’s world, environmental consciousness is crucial. Cabinet refacing is an eco-friendly alternative that recycles the bulk of your cabinets. By using the existing cabinet framework, refacing minimizes waste and reduces the environmental impact that is often associated with cabinet replacement. This sustainable option allows homeowners to continue their commitment to a greener planet while still achieving a fresh and modern look for their kitchen. Homeowners can take it a step further and invest in energy-efficient appliances and lighting and even choose other eco-friendly materials for their kitchen makeover too.

Customizable

Choosing to reface your cabinets doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice on style or personalization. There is a whole world of customization options within refacing. Homeowners can choose from a plethora of door styles, materials, finishes, and hardware to curate their desired look. If you lean more modern and sleek, or traditional and timeless, there is sure to be a cabinet refacing design that is tailored to your personal taste and compliments the rest of your home.

Maintains Layout and Functionality

The final reason why cabinet refacing is a great option is that you can maintain your current kitchen layout and function. Although some homeowner’s main kitchen pain point is the layout, that is not the case for everyone. If your main complaint about your kitchen is simply the aesthetic, cabinet refacing is ideal for you. With a total remodel, there’s a risk of unexpected challenges that might arise and require adjustments to your current kitchen layout. Cabinet refacing preserves your existing layout and ensures that your kitchen remains the same functionally, but give it a stunning facelift!

While the enticement of brand-new cabinets is undeniable, cabinet refacing offers many benefits and might be a compelling choice for you and your home if you’re looking to refresh your space without breaking the bank. From cost-efficiency, time savings, sustainability, and customization options, cabinet refacing proves that you don’t have to go all-in for a kitchen update. If you’re still not sure if cabinet refacing is the best option for you, reach out to your local Kitchen Solvers to start the conversation today. We’re happy to come out and take a look at your space and let you know what we can do for you—free of charge!

]]>
If kitchens are the heart of the home, the cabinetry is the heart of the kitchen. Kitchen cabinets play a huge role in defining both a space’s aesthetic and functionality. Although dreaming of a full kitchen remodel is fun and easy, it is not always feasible for everyone in every stage of life. Sometimes refacing your cabinets can be a smarter and more cost-effective alternative. Here we’ll list 10 compelling reasons why a cabinet reface is a wise investment for homeowners.

1. Cost-Effectiveness

Going the refacing route is significantly more budget-friendly than a full kitchen overhaul. It allows you to achieve a fresh and updated look without breaking the bank. The bulk of the cost of new cabinetry is in new cabinet boxes, so by keeping those structures in place and simply replacing the doors and hardware, you save on both materials and labor.

2. Time-Efficient

A full kitchen renovation can disrupt your daily routine and leave your kitchen (and entire home) disheveled for weeks. A cabinet reface, however, is quick and efficient and can usually be done in 2-4 days depending on the size and scope of the project. This minimizes the inconvenience and allows you to enjoy your new kitchen in practically no time.

3. Environmentally Friendly

Opting for a kitchen cabinet reface is an environmentally conscious choice. By recycling the existing cabinet boxes and framework you are reducing the need for new materials and minimizing waste. The environmental impact associated with the manufacturing and disposal of cabinetry can be detrimental, so every little bit we can do to cut that down make a difference.

4. Versatility in Design

The style possibilities are virtually endless with cabinet refacing. Whether you prefer a classic, modern, or eclectic style you can choose from a wide variety of materials, finishes, and hardware to design your cabinetry to fit your taste. Having this type of flexibility ensures that your kitchen will reflect your style and personality.

5. Preservation of Layout and Functionality

If you have no qualms about your kitchen’s current layout and functionality, there really is no need for a complete overhaul. Choosing to reface instead of replace allows you to maintain the existing structures while giving it a major facelift. This maintains the aspects of your kitchen that work well for you so you know you’ll be able to function smoothly in the new space as well.

6. Increased Home Value

A refreshed and modern kitchen significantly adds to the overall value of your home. Potential buyers are drawn to a well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing kitchen. It can be the deciding factor for a lot of buyers as they are comparing homes to one another. Refaced cabinets can be a selling point for your home that sets you apart from the rest of the real estate market in your area.

7. Quality of Materials

During the process of refacing your cabinets, you have the opportunity to upgrade the quality of materials used for your doors, drawer fronts, and hardware. You might also consider upgrading your countertops, backsplash, and appliances at the same time. All these changes not only enhance the visual appeal but also improve the durability and longevity of your cabinets and kitchen as a whole.

8. Enhanced Lighting and Visibility

You might be surprised how much of a difference upgraded cabinet doors can make on the lighting and visibility of a space. Choosing a glass insert door, or simply a lighter-colored door can create a brighter and more open feel to your kitchen. This can make your kitchen more enjoyable and comfortable for cooking and entertaining.

9. Personalized Storage Solutions

During your cabinet refacing project, you have the opportunity to reassess your storage needs in your kitchen and implement personalized solutions. You can incorporate features such as pull-out shelves, Lazy Susans, or built-in organizers for spices, cooking sheets, or pots and pans. These allow you to optimize the functionality of your cabinets.

10. Minimal Disruption

One of the most significant advantages of a cabinet reface is the very minimal disruption is causes to your daily life. As we already mentioned, a reface takes much less time than a full remodel, but your kitchen can stay almost fully functional during the project as well. By avoiding removing all of the cabinetry, you can maintain some workspaces and access to appliances so your kitchen can still be used during the evenings when work is not being done.

As you can see, refacing is a smart investment that combines cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and the opportunity for an updated and personalized design and function for your kitchen. It breathes new life in your kitchen and enhances both aesthetic appeal and function without the hassle and time commitment of a full renovation. Whether you are looking to sell your home soon or create a more enjoyable living space for you and your family to enjoy for years to come, a reface is a great option. Designing a kitchen can be overwhelming not only because your kitchen is the heart of your home, but also because it will be the heart of the next owner’s home as well. Kitchens are a place where memories are made, meals are shared, and life lessons are taught and learned. When remodeling a kitchen, it is important to think through functionality, aesthetics, and trends. Creating a timeless kitchen is not just about what is in style today, but what will continue to be fashionable and functional for years to come—especially if you know you are not in your forever home. Here we’ll go over a few ways to create a kitchen that has timeless charm.

A Neutral Palette

Although there are always going to be trendy colors, neutrality is your best bet when you want to achieve a timeless look. Opt for whites, creams, grays, and natural tones for your cabinetry and countertops. These tones will create an adaptable canvas that can flex to the changing styles simply by sapping out accessories or decorative pieces. Neutrals also make the kitchen feel inviting and timeless by creating a sense of brightness and openness.

Quality Matters

If your goal is to design a timeless kitchen, you are going to want to start with high-quality materials. Your kitchen will only be timeless if it lasts and kitchens get a lot of daily use so it is important to choose materials that will stand the test of time. Choose durable options like hardwood cabinetry, natural stones, and ceramic or porcelain flooring. These types of materials not only age well, but also add sophistication and elegance to the space. Although quality materials might come with a bit of a sticker shock, remember that they will pay off in the long run through their longevity and appeal.

Stick to the Classics

Cabinets make up the bulk of your kitchen and can really be a dominant feature when it comes to the style and aesthetic of the space. Choosing a classic cabinet style such as the Shaker style is a great way to ensure that your kitchen will remain in style for years. Shaker cabinets have clean, simple lines that are functional and flexible. They complement a variety of design styles and can be customized with different hardware for a fresh, new look without a complete overhaul. Beyond the style you choose, it is also important to choose cabinets with a quality of craftsmanship that will stay sturdy and attractive.

Prioritize Function

No matter how timeless or stylish a kitchen is, it will not stand the test of time if it lacks functionality. If you find yourself getting frustrated in your kitchen, it will not be long before you are ready for a change. A well-designed kitchen considers the kitchen work triangle—this maximizes the arrangements of your main work areas—the sink, stove, and refrigerator. Sticking to a layout that optimizes movement between these 3 areas streamlines meal preparation and creates a better workflow overall. It is also important to prioritize storage space for utensils, cookware, and small appliances to keep your countertops clutter-free and open for preparation.

Less is More

A kitchen that is timeless embraces understated elegance. Choose simple and sophisticated details that won’t feel dated in a couple of years. Things that are too flashy tend to be too trendy and can also be divisive and turn some buyers away. Subtle crown molding, classic hardware, and minimalistic light fixtures will create an enduring aesthetic. Although it is tempting to choose trendy elements that you might love, opting instead for elements that have stood the test of time will be a better choice.

Make it Yours

Although the goal is a timeless kitchen that can be flexible for families to come, don’t forget to add personal touches that reflect your family’s personality and lifestyle. Dedicate an area to displaying your grandmother’s vintage kitchenware, grow fresh herbs on your windowsill, or look for places to put family photos tastefully integrated into the décor. Adding touches like this will infuse warmth and personality, but also ensure that your kitchen is a reflection of you.

In short, a timeless kitchen is a perfect blend of practicality and aesthetics, where quality and function are prioritized above temporary trends. If you focus on neutral colors, quality materials, classic designs, and a functional layout, you are sure to design a kitchen that remains in style and inviting through the years of the changing tides of design. A timeless kitchen does not feel frozen in the past, but rather evolves gracefully and maintains its enduring charm.

When you think about it, kitchens are almost entirely cabinet so the choice you make for your kitchen cabinetry is one of the most impactful elements you’ll choose. They provide practical storage that is essential to the space, but they also set the tone and style for the entire room. If you are about to remodel your kitchen, there are plenty of creative kitchen cabinet ideas that will breathe new life into your kitchen. Here we’ll take a look at a few kitchen cabinet styles that will hopefully inspire you for your upcoming remodel.

Modern Open Shelving

Open shelving has become more and more popular over the past few years. Adding just one section of open shelves to your upper cabinet space adds a contemporary vibe to the space. They are sleek and minimal and allow you to showcase dishware, décor, or cookbooks. Eliminating upper cabinets in some areas of the kitchen can make a smaller kitchen feel more spacious while also adding a touch of sophistication to your kitchen design.

Two-Tone Cabinets

Gone are the days of monotone cabinetry. Using two different colors for your kitchen cabinets adds depth and dimension to your design. Consider mixing and matching finishes as well—perhaps your lower cabinets are a wood grain finish, and your upper cabinets are a smooth, painted finish. Doing this adds texture and interest and a striking contrast to keep your kitchen from looking boring. Two-tone cabinetry adds a modern twist while also maintaining balance and harmony.

Glass-Front Cabinets

Glass-front cabinets instantly add elegance to a space. They are the perfect way to add a touch of formal sophistication and allow you to display cherished china or decorative spaces while still keeping things protected, unlike open shelving. Glass-front cabinets are timeless and can add visual interest to the space. Consider using glass-front cabinets in only one section, or even just along the top of your cabinets just below the ceiling. Either look will add elegant, timeless appeal.

Vintage and Retro Cabinets

If you’re a fan of vintage aesthetics, you might consider using retro-inspired or true retro kitchen cabinets and pieces. Recycling older cabinets can be a cool way to add character and personality to your kitchen. Cabinets with ornate details, curved edges, and distressed finishes create a nostalgic atmosphere. Keep your eye out for estate sales in your area or go to antique stores to find quality pieces that can be restored and used anew in your home. Adding a few older pieces to a modern kitchen remodel created a unique fusion of old and new and makes your space feel built-in and intentional.

Creative Hardware

A simple update to your cabinet hardware can make a major impact on your kitchen design. Knobs, handles, hinges, and pulls can all be updated and swapped out for a whole new look that transforms your kitchen and creates statement pieces out of your existing cabinetry. Experiment with unique shapes, materials, and finishes that fit your style and personality to complement your kitchen style. Geometric shapes can add a modern, edgy look while brass hardware is always a touch of warmth and elegance.

Cabinetry plays a major role in defining the ambiance and aesthetic of your kitchen. Explore creative ideas that help make your kitchen your own and transform your culinary space into a place you are proud to show off. There are endless ways to express your creativity and individuality throughout your entire home, and that doesn’t need to stop at your kitchen. When designing a kitchen, one of the most important things to consider is the cabinetry. After all, it makes up the majority of the kitchen and can really make a difference in the style and atmosphere of the space. Additionally, cabinets play a huge functional role in the kitchen by providing storage and organization. Although cabinets are a huge part of the kitchen, don’t be afraid to make a statement with your choice. Cabinets can make a boring, everyday kitchen into an interesting, conversation-starting space. Here are a few ideas for some conversation-inducing kitchen cabinets:

Bold Colors

White and wood-tone cabinets are always in style which means that they can be extremely overdone. Instead of following the crowd, opt for a bold, unexpected color on your cabinets like a bright blue, deep green, or even a luxurious purple. Adding color to your cabinets not only will surprise your guests but also lets them in on your personality right away. Adding this large amount of color to your kitchen space is sure to make the room a focal point of the home.

Open Shelving

If you enjoy more of a modern, minimal, or industrial look, consider the idea of open shelving instead of cabinetry. This trend has been growing in popularity over the last decade and is a great way to showcase even more of your personality by putting your dishes, glasses, and cookbooks on display. Perhaps you have an antique China set from your grandma, or a collaborative cookbook of family recipes from generations past. Talk about conversation starters!

Mixed Materials

Why stick to just wood cabinets? Consider mixing and matching multiple materials of cabinetry for a highly contrasted look. Maybe you do wood perimeter cabinets and a cool, industrial metal kitchen island. Glass doors or shelving can also add depth and texture to the space and is sure to catch your visitor’s eyes and curiosity.

Unique Hardware

Don’t underestimate the power of your cabinet hardware to make a statement. Traditional knobs and pulls definitely have their space in some homes, but if you’re looking to quickly add personality and pizazz to your kitchen, the hardware is a great place to start. Use unique materials like leather, rope, clay, or even antler if you’re designing a cabin or are an outdoorsy family. There are endless possibilities of things you could use as cabinet hardware that will for sure tell a story of who you are and get a conversation rolling.

Custom Artwork

If you are really wanting a one-of-a-kind look for your kitchen, consider commissioning an artist to create custom pieces for your cabinets. A local artist could do hand-painted designs or even intricate mosaic tile work. With this route, you can fully personalize the cabinets to fit you and your family’s personality and story to a T. Who wouldn’t want to hear why you chose what you did—it would definitely start some intentional conversation at your next dinner party.

Whichever conversation-starting cabinetry you decide on, going against the grain is a great way to add personality and style to your kitchen. Whether it’s a bold color, a unique material, or custom artwork, the sky is the limit for your kitchen design. If you’re ready to start dreaming, give your local Kitchen Solvers a call to set up a free in-home consultation. We can’t wait to design a new space that is both functional and unforgettable.

Cabinet refacing is a great option for your kitchen remodel if you are happy with your current kitchen layout and functionality. Not only is it less expensive than a full kitchen remodel, but it takes a lot less time too. Depending on the size of the kitchen, our Kitchen Solvers teams can usually reface an entire kitchen in less than a week. This ensures that your life is not completely disrupted, and you’ll be back in your kitchen cooking and hosting in no time. Here is a general timeline of what you can expect as you are considering a kitchen reface.

Consultation

At Kitchen Solvers, we always start with a free in-home consultation. During this meeting, we’ll confirm that your kitchen is a good candidate for a reface and talk about your goals for your remodel. We’ll get a sense of your budget, style, likes, and dislikes. We’ll also ask if you have any photos of other kitchens that you have liked and are inspired by. We’ll bring some photos of kitchens we’ve done in the past to see if there are things you’d like us to recreate in your space as well.

Creating a Project

After that initial consultation, we’ll start putting together the pieces of your project. We’ll get detailed measurements of your kitchen and pick out project materials, fixtures, and finishes. We may ask you to come into our showroom to have you look at samples or we could come to your home again to make these decisions. Once we have all the measurements and design decisions made, we’ll get the final quote put together and present you with the detailed plan for your new kitchen.

Order Up

Once the final details have been agreed upon, we’ll get all the materials needed on order. In a refacing project, this is often the step that takes the longest. Depending on the availability and lead time of our vendors, we’ll get you a tentative start date for your project. We’ll also get in contact with any subcontractors that might be necessary for your project. For example, if there is plumbing or electrical work needed, we will get one of our trusted professional colleagues scheduled to help out.

Preparation

Once the materials have arrived and an official start date is set, it’s time to start preparing your home for installation. This includes emptying your kitchen cabinets, moving any furniture, and making space in the garage for us to work. After that, we’ll come in and remove your existing cabinet doors and drawer faces, set up some protective coverings over the areas we will not be remodeling, and get all the cabinet boxes ready for their facelift.

Installation

Once all the prep work is complete, we’ll take a few days to install your beautiful like-new cabinets! We intricately cut and install a real wood veneer or maintenance-free laminate on your cabinet boxes. We take our time to ensure that our work is perfect and seamless on each box. We then add your new cabinet doors and drawer fronts as well as new hardware and hinges to make sure each door and drawer functions smoothly and properly. After everything is installed and any needed subcontractors have finished their jobs, we’ll get everything cleaned up and ready for the big reveal!

Your NEW Kitchen

Finally, it’s time for you to enjoy your new space! We’ll do a final walkthrough with you and make sure everything is complete to your liking. Then you can get your items put away and organized and start using your new kitchen—we hope it’s everything you dreamed of. We’ll grab some photos and videos of the space to share with future clients. If you’re inclined, we love when customers share their positive experiences with friends and family or on our review sites.

Every project is unique, but we hope that this general timeline gives you a good idea of what you can expect if you choose your local Kitchen Solvers to help make your kitchen dreams come true. We look forward to hearing from you to set up that initial free in-home consultation soon!
